Mutaru Muqthar emerges African of the Year 2017

A 34-year-old Mutaru Mumuni Muqthar has been named AFRICAN OF THE YEAR award winner for 2017.

Former President of Botswana and chairperson of the award jury, Festus Mogae, said the young Mr. Muqthar was selected for his exemplary work on counter-terrorism, which led to de-radicalization of would-be extremists in Africa.

He said the seven-member jury noted with satisfaction the effectiveness of Mr. Muqthar’s engagement with dozens of would-be terrorists, including a 21-year-old who was dissuaded from joining ISIS in Syria.

Victor Moses shortlisted for BBC African Footballer of the Year Award

 

Super Eagles star, Victor Moses, is on a five-man shortlist for the prestigious BBC African Footballer of the Year Award.

The BBC award nomination is coming on the heels of another one he received earlier this month for the African Footballer of the Year award, organised by CAF, the continent’s football governing body.

Moses made the shortlist for the BBC prize following a fantastic year at Chelsea in which he helped the Blues win the Premier League title and reach the FA Cup final, all from the new position of right wing-back.

On the international stage, Moses has been a key player for the Super Eagles who emerged as the first African team to qualify for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Singapore ranked world’s most expensive city for fourth consecutive year

 

Singapore has been ranked the most expensive city in the world for expatriates for the fourth consecutive year, according to a report published on Monday by the Economic Intelligence Unit, EIU.

The Worldwide Cost of Living 2017 report saw Asian cities take five of the top ten spots, thanks to a sustained recovery in the strength of the Japanese yen that propelled Tokyo and Osaka back into the top ten, alongside Singapore and Seoul.

Western Europe accounted for a further four cities, with stalwarts Zurich and Geneva in third and seventh position respectively.

Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho signs new 5-year deal

Liverpool star player, Philippe Coutinho, has signed a new deal that prolongs his stay at Anfield, ESPN has reported.

The 24-year-old Brazil international signed a five year deal on Wednesday with the English Premiership giants, to end speculations in the past few months of a potential move to Barcelona.

Mahrez emerges African player of the year

Algerian Super star Riyad Mahrez has been voted as the African Player of the Year at the 25th edition of the Glo-CAF Awards held Thursday night in Abuja.

Mahrez dethroned Pierre-Emerick AUBAMEYANG who won the last edition but finished as runners up this year.

Sadio Mane finished in third place.

Algeria’s Mahrez wins BBC African Footballer of the Year Award

Algerian star, Riyad Mahrez, has been voted as the 2016 BBC African Footballer of the Year by fans from across the world.

He beat Liverpool’s Saido Mane to the award after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Yaya Toure and Andre Ayew had been eliminated.
