U.N. General Assembly rejects Trump on Jerusalem decision despite his threat

The United Nations General Assembly voted overwhelmingly Thursday to rejects President Trump’s controversial declaration recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Trump threatened to withhold aid in retaliation for a vote condemning his position.

The U.N. body voted 128-9 to declare Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital “null and void.” Thirty-five nations abstained.

The measure, drafted by U.S. ally Egypt, urges nations to support U.N. resolutions dating to 1967 — when Israel captured East Jerusalem from Jordan — that call for Jerusalem’s status to be decided through negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.

Egypt says U.S. decision to withhold aid could have negative impact

 

Egypt expressed its regret on Wednesday over a U.S. decision to deny it $95.7 million in aid and to delay a further $195 million.

Two U.S. sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Tuesday the decision came because of Egypt’s failure to make progress on respecting human rights and democratic norms.

Egypt Foreign Ministry in a statement said the move would have a negative impact on common interests.

“Egypt sees this measure as reflecting poor judgment of the strategic relationship that ties the two countries over long decades and as adopting a view that lacks an accurate understanding of the importance of supporting Egypt’s stability,” the ministry said in a statement.

Trump supports former NSA’s decision to seek immunity over Russia probe

U.S. President Donald Trump has supported the decision of his former National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn, to seek immunity from prosecution in exchange for his testimony in congressional probes of possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Mr. Trump, in a tweet on Friday, emphasised that the decision to probe the sacked adviser is a witch-hunt and excuse by the Democrats and the media to justify the defeat of Democratic Hillary Clinton in the Nov. 8 presidential election.

FBI resolves Clinton email probe, stands by July decision

The United States of America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced that it would not make any changes to its July decision on Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton’s emails.

The FBI Director, James Comey, told lawmakers on Sunday that the agency had not changed its opinion that Mrs. Clinton should not face criminal charges after a review of new emails.
