Mutaru Muqthar emerges African of the Year 2017

A 34-year-old Mutaru Mumuni Muqthar has been named AFRICAN OF THE YEAR award winner for 2017.

Former President of Botswana and chairperson of the award jury, Festus Mogae, said the young Mr. Muqthar was selected for his exemplary work on counter-terrorism, which led to de-radicalization of would-be extremists in Africa.

He said the seven-member jury noted with satisfaction the effectiveness of Mr. Muqthar’s engagement with dozens of would-be terrorists, including a 21-year-old who was dissuaded from joining ISIS in Syria.

American hip-hop superstar, Sean Combs, a.k.a P Diddy has emerged Forbes highest earning musician for the year, without releasing any album for the period.

Rafael Nadal wins 2017 U.S. Open


Rafael Nadal is the new champion at Flushing Meadows, after claiming a comprehensive 6-3 6-3 6-4 win over final debutant, Kevin Anderson of South Africa in the 2017 U.S. Open tennis tournament.

Anderson was completely out of his element as Nadal showed full court intelligence to subdue the big serving South African.

The match took two hours and 27 minutes, but it was due to Anderson’s resilience that the match was not over in less than two hours.

UN launches record $22.2 billion humanitarian appeal for 2017

The UN on Monday launched a record $22.2 billion humanitarian appeal for 2017 to help almost 93 million people hit by conflicts and natural disasters around the world.

More than half of the money will be used to address the needs of people caught up in crises in Syria, Yemen, Iraq and South Sudan, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.
